2008-2009 Schedule

Sodality Meeting Agenda 2008-2009

The focus this year will be on the virtue of Charity for Catholic women. This schedule was approved by Father Radecki.

September – Catholic women Theme: Kindness
At this meeting Father will give a short talk on the subject of charity and what it means specifically to virtuous Catholic young women. Then, each member will choose a woman saint who was noted for her charity. We will discuss the importance of having examples from which to model our behavior. Each girl will do some reading on her chosen saint and discuss her at the next meeting.

October – Charity Theme: Forgiveness
This meeting will focus on the importance of charity for Catholic women. We will read excerpts from saints’ lives such as St. Elizabeth of Hungary, discuss the saints we chose last month, and choose a charity project on which to work for this Christmas season.

November – Charity project Theme: Good Example
We will work on our charity project.

December – Caroling
January – Outing to Toledo cathedral and Tony Packo’s.

February – Second charity project Theme: Strength
At this meeting the members will choose another charity project on which to work for the upcoming Easter season.

March – Second charity project continued. Theme: Prayer

April – Plan for tea. Discuss importance of etiquette. Theme: Humility
This meeting will be focused on the importance of being a lady and its timelessness. The correlation between being a lady and having charity and kindness will be stressed. Behavior, decorum, strength, ladylikeness, Christian modesty in dress, language, etc will all be discussed.

May – Mother's Day flower sale and Etiquette tea

Modesty Dressing...a Poem for the Fashion Show and Tea...To be read by Katelyn

Modesty Dressing
By Anonymous and edited by Paula Storm

A Fashion Show we have for you.
Which is probably long overdue.
Our models are dressed with fashion and flair
To give you ideas on modesty dressing to share.

The short skirt fad you must agree
Is showing off a lot of knee.
First, the knee and then the thigh...
Some mini-skirts go 'way up high!
So, if you want to sit at all..
And walk or run or cruise the mall...
Better have more fabric in your dress...
Remember, modesty is always best!

And...please don't dare to reach or bend,
Because you WILL expose your end.

Halters on horses are always quite fine.
A horse needs a halter to keep him in line.
A horse needs a halter to keep him on track.
A horse needs a halter to guide him on back.

A girl needs a sweatshirt or a turtleneck sweater.
A girl needs a jacket or vest in cold weather.
A girl needs a t-shirt or blouse to look fine,
A girl dressed modestly is right on the line.
Halters are always in style for a horse,
But a Catholic woman needs to do better...of course!

Then, there are clothes so tight and revealing,
Just to breathe makes you numb...no feeling.
Is it really worth the pain and duress..
To feel like a mummy with full figure distress?

A slit, a slash, a slice or a split
May be what the fashion experts call "it"
But, you'd better take care of that mighty long tear.
You may just end up showing your pink underwear!

The Gothic look of "Painted Face"
For Halloween might have its place
With eyes and lips as Dark as night,
To others…such a Ghastly sight!

The look you wear tells quite a story
Your self-esteem with virtues and glory,
A daughter of God and a Princess, too
Is what our Father bequeaths to you.
Remember, girls, and know it's true,
There's always Someone watching you.

The worldly look would have you think
Spaghetti isn't something good to eat.
Instead...straps so small it's hard to see
If they're part of the dress or part of "thee"

A beautiful girl in a beautiful dress
Looks gorgeous and stunning, I confess.
Many eyes will want to admire
This girl, if she's modest in her attire.
To be "holy" does not mean
That we must take it to the extreme...

Of piercing nose and tongue and eyes.
To do so isn't sensible, nor is it wise!
Piercing this and that and there
Shows that you really do not care
For the body that you were given
By a loving Father in Heaven.

The temple that you mar
Will forever yet to be scarred.

So…stand for truth and righteousness!
Be "holy" and be free.
Take care of the only body you'll have
and receive blessings through eternity!
Permanent tattoos...
Is that what you choose?
They won't wash off, they are always there,
And...they will go with you EVERYWHERE!

Hearts and skulls and dragon's feet.
Are these what you want your grandchildren to meet?
Now, it doesn't take ink, nor does it take dye
To show that true beauty lies deep inside.

If you're looking for some swimwear to buy
Don't choose those leg holes cut 'way up high!"
They're fashioned to almost reach your waist.
MY GOODNESS! What keeps the bottom in place?
There's hardly any fabric there
To cover parts that SHOULDN'T be bare!

And necklines so low that one can see
(When you bend over) clear to the knee!

Modesty, they say, is "Out of Style"
Why, on some nude beaches...they just wear a smile.
So, when you shop...your cash to spend...
Make sure you're covered, too: THE END

Fashion Show Ideas

Instead of models changing clothes, which can be chaotic, I was thinking that the models can carry a prop of something that represents a problem in dressing.

For example: carry a plunger to represent a plunging neckline, a dog halter for halter tops, some Saran Wrap for tight clothes, something with a slit in it to represent slit skirts, a witch's hat for the "Goth" look, etc.

Any more ideas on this?

Oh, we also need music. I will work on this.

Modesty Dressing Poem for our Fashion Show

How about the Sodality reading this before our show begins?

Keep this Date: Kohl's May 6, 2008

The tentative date and time for picking out the clothes at Kohl's will be Tuesday, May 6 in the evening...probably around 7 PM. All models for the fashion show will have to be there.

Save the time/date.

Should be fun!

God bless you

How to Make the Mother's Day Corsages

1. Take 2 flowers and place them next to each other

2. Cut off any extra stem

3. Use floral tape or ribbon and tape them together, floral tape works best and is very inexpensive

4. If you would like to have some extra decoration, you can use fern with the corsage.

5. To add the fern just put it with the 2 flowers

6. Don't forget to include a pin with the corsage

Fashion Show and Tea -- May 10 2 PM in parish Social Hall

I went to the Christian Mothers meeting and they, too, are very excited about the Fashion Show and Tea.

Got some volunteers to be models, too. Now we need models from Sodality as well as others from the parish .

Please let me know if you want to be a model. Remember, models get a discount from Kohl's and will have fun, too!

Post a comment to this blog if you want to be a model.

I will let you know when the date will be to get the clothes. I have to talk to the manager of Kohl's. Perhaps it needs to be the same day as the show. I will see.

God bless!

Update -- February 29 Fashion Show and Funds

Great news! Amanda and Michelle Diehl have agreed to go to Kohl's and help pick out the clothes for the fashion show! They both dress modestly, yet fashionably, so I thought they were a good choice.

Of course, if you have anyone else you would like to go as a consultant, just bring it up at the next meeting.

Now for more very good news... Sodality has $438.21 in its treasury! By the time summer comes and we are ready for our outing, we should have quite a good bit of money to help us fund our trip.

See you at the March 9th meeting.

God bless all of you.

Paula

Fashion Show Update

I went to Kohl's today to see if they would be willing to be involved in our fashion show.

The manager, Lisa Grasso, was GREAT and said that we can come in the store, pick out the clothes, sign them out and just return them when finished!

Everyone who models will get a discount on the clothes as well.

The Kohl's we will use is the one on Ford Road in Canton.

We now need to:
1. pick a date
2. get some models

Update -- February 25

Next Meeting -- Due to the party after second Mass this coming Sunday, our next meeting will be held on Sunday, March 9th after second Mass. We will still be doing the scrapbook, so be sure and bring your supplies. I found some good stuff around the house to bring...some nice papers, etc.

Bake Sale -- Sunday, March 16 (Palm Sunday) after all Masses. Mrs. Tibai is donating some blarney stones to be sold. The baked goods can be for St. Patrick's Day, St. Joseph's Day, or Easter.

Good Friday babysitting -- We will do this from 11:45 - 2:30. Two Sodality members have to be with the kids at all times. You will have a shift of about an hour. Jerry and I will come in periodically for support and to help you. The kids will have crafts, games, and video to watch. At 2:30 the kids will come down into the social hall and eat.

Fashion Show -- This is coming along really well! Christian mothers are doing the tea. I am going to contact some stores this week about providing the clothes. Will need models of all shapes and sizes and ages to show the beauty of all women and how we all can dress modestly, yet fashionable and lovely.

More later! God bless all of you~

Spring Fashion Show

I am going to meet with Chris Campbell, head of the Christian Mothers Group, and Barbara Day on Saturday, Feb 16 about the Spring Fashion Show.

The Christian Mothers Group has agreed to work with us on this. In fact, they are going to do the 'tea' part of it!

Pat Ryback has also offered to help plan this as she has experience with fashion shows. Clare K. and I are going to bring our hats so everyone can have fun trying on hats!

Prayer to St. Bernadette -- 150th Anniversary of Our Lady of Lourdes

O Saint Bernadette, pure and simple child, thou who wast privileged to behold the beauty of Mary Immaculate and to be the recipient of her confidence eighteen times at Lourdes; thou who didst desire thenceforth to hide thyself in the cloister of Nevers and there live and die as a victim for sinners, obtain for us that spirit of purity, simplicity, and mortification which will lead us also to the glorious vision of God and of Mary in Heaven. Amen.
